Kayak, a U.S.-based travel search engine owned by Booking, has just released a list of the 10 cheapest cities in Asia for tourists, which includes two cities from Vietnam.
To save more when traveling to Asian destinations, Kayak experts recommend that tourists “plan their trips for this fall travel season (October – November) and save up to 12% on flights compared to the peak travel season (May – July).”
Based on this, Kayak has provided data on which destinations in Asia have the lowest travel costs. To compile the list of the 10 most affordable cities in Asia, they reviewed searches from January to June 2024 for travel to Asia from June to December 2024. The site combined the average economy round-trip airfare with the average cost of a standard double hotel room per night to determine the 10 cheapest Asian cities for tourists to visit right now.
With an average total cost of $1,452, Ho Chi Minh City is the second cheapest travel city, after Taipei.

Currently, Vietnam Airlines offers direct flights from San Francisco to Ho Chi Minh City at a great value. The cost of booking this flight directly with Vietnam Airlines starts at just $660 round-trip, and it is one of the few direct flights from Southeast Asia to North America. Besides affordable flights, food and accommodations are also quite inexpensive. Kayak experts also emphasized that Vietnam is the “lowest-cost travel destination” in Southeast Asia.
The third cheapest city in Asia is Jakarta, Indonesia, with $1,478; followed by New Delhi, India, $1,490; Bangkok, Thailand, $1,493; Manila, Philippines, $1,495; Tokyo, Japan, $1,499; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, $1,505.
With a total trip cost of $1,546, Hanoi is the 9th cheapest city on the list, above Osaka, Japan.
Vietnam is one of the two countries with two appearances on this list, which is not surprising to those familiar with traveling in Asian countries.

“Visiting Vietnam means experiencing a country with delicious, cheap food, high-value hotels, and convenient transportation. Accommodations, from budget to luxury, are much cheaper than in surrounding countries. Domestic business class flights in Vietnam offer great value and make the experience at the country’s crowded airports much more enjoyable; even economy flights are much cheaper than similar routes in the U.S.,” said Ethan Crowley, a Kayak expert, adding that “street food in Vietnam is among the cheapest in the region.”
