Landslides are a recurring issue in Lam Dong province during the rainy season, causing damage to people and property. Recently, a significant landslide occurred at Alley 53 Dao Duy Tu Street, along Suoi Cat, affecting both Ward 3 and Ward 4. The fast-flowing water has eroded the soil, damaging houses and leaving the thin concrete pavement dangerously suspended. Despite warning signs, many people still cross the barriers.
“The upcoming heavy rains could further erode the soil, posing a threat to my family’s safety and the safety of others in the area,” said Ms. Lam Thi Ngoc Van from Ward 4. “I hope the authorities will repair it soon,” added Mr. Pham Cao Thang from Ward 3.
Before the rainy season, the People’s Committee of Da Lat City instructed authorities to review over 750 construction sites, including projects on hillsides and slopes. They identified more than 60 projects at risk of landslides, most of which are privately owned.
Da Lat City continues to monitor and install warning signs, and they promptly stop construction on projects deemed unsafe. “The City People’s Committee has directed wards and communes to review and inform residents proactively. People and project owners must also report any issues,” said Nguyen Duong Trung Huu, Head of the Urban Management Department of Da Lat City.
Additionally, Da Lat City has tightened licensing for new construction projects. Investors must survey and assess the site, considering the embankment structure to prevent landslides. Authorities aim to limit permits for high embankments and terrain alterations to reduce landslide risks.
