Road passenger transport is still facing difficulties

by Asia Insider

More than two years after the COVD-19 pandemic raged, new passenger transport is on the verge of resumption. The number of visitors is gradually inching up but not much. In addition to the high price of gasoline, many businesses suffer constant losses.

Currently, each bus departure, the number of passengers only fills about 40% of the seats. Therefore, most businesses have only put less than half of their vehicles into operation so far.

A representative of the Hanoi bus station management unit said that gasoline accounts for over 40% of transportation costs. Therefore, every time the price of petrol increases, it continues to cause difficulties for businesses, so many bus operators increase ticket prices.

”During the process of price increases, we also review and remind to strictly comply with the State’s regulations when raising prices. Ensure the harmonious benefits between the garage parties and passengers so that the price increase does not affect the travel needs of people,” said Mr. Tran Hoang – Head of Planning Department, Hanoi Bus Station Joint Stock Company.

According to a representative of the Hanoi Taxi Association, in the context of a sharp increase in gasoline prices, the number of new passengers reached about 30% compared to before the epidemic, so to maintain operations, taxis and technological vehicles must also increase their prices by 10-15% to avoid continued losses.

In addition to trying to put a part of the vehicle into operation to serve and retain passengers, over time, bus operators have also had to carry more parcels to cover costs.
