The Japanese government is easing entry restrictions for travelers from Taiwan and four Asian countries on Tuesday.
Long-term residents, like expatriate workers, will now be able to travel back and forth between Japan and these countries.
The four countries are Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar. The move is in line with the government’s stance that Japan will allow in travelers from countries where the coronavirus pandemic is largely contained.
Japan has already eased travel restrictions for long-term residents from Vietnam and Thailand.
The government aims to strike a deal with Singapore by the end of this month to mutually admit both short- and long-term visitors.
Tokyo is also in negotiations with China, South Korea and Australia. It hopes to revive Japan’s economy by gradually reopening its borders.
