Global tourism to surpass 10 billion visitors this year

by Asia Insider

Specifically, according to the World Tourism Trends 2023 report jointly released by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and the World Tourism Cities Federation on May 10, global tourist arrivals this year are expected to reach 10.78 billion, 74.4% of the 2019 level.

The report also predicts that the global tourism and travel revenue will reach $5 trillion, equivalent to 86.2% of the total revenue in 2019.

In 2022, global tourist arrivals are projected to reach 9.57 billion, with revenue of $4.6 trillion.

After the Covid-19 pandemic, the policies and measures of many countries have contributed to the recovery of the tourism industry, gradually improving the global tourism industry. In particular, the growth rate of tourism revenue has exceeded the growth rate of global trade.

Song Rui, director of the CASS Tourism Research Center, believes that the global tourism economy is gradually recovering and welcoming a new future.

However, the director also notes that the recovery of the tourism industry is dependent on the development of the macroeconomy. If the global economy is uncertain, it can also have an impact on the tourism industry.

To create and seize opportunities in the future, the entire smokeless industry, governments, tourist cities, and related fields need to build consensus, collaborate, and make decisions scientifically.

At the same time, to create strong motivation for the world tourism industry to revive and develop, new ideas and measures need to be strengthened.
