Visitors entering Thailand are not required to test for Covid-19

Taweeslip Visaniuyothin, a spokesman for the Thai Covid-19 Situation Administration Center, said that from April 1, visitors to Thailand will not need to have a negative certificate for Covid-19. This regulation applies to all visitors entering Thailand in any form.

According to current regulations, visitors entering Thailand must perform a PCR test 48 hours before and have negative results. But from April 1, visitors only need to take the PCR test on the first day after entry and the rapid test on the 5th day of the trip.

This move to loosen restrictions is one of the efforts of the Golden Temple country to restore the tourism industry that was badly damaged after the pandemic.

Over the past two years, draconian travel restrictions have helped Thailand push back the number of Covid-19 infections and deaths in the early stages of the pandemic. However, the impact of the epidemic has severely impacted the tourism industry, which accounts for about one-fifth of the country’s economy, ABC News said.

At the meeting of the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration, Thailand continued to relax epidemic prevention measures in 24 provinces, mainly in the north and northeast of the country.

The capital Bangkok and eight other provinces are fully reopened to become a tourist pilot area. At these destinations, mass gatherings are not restricted, and restaurants with a certificate of epidemic prevention are allowed to sell alcohol.

Currently, Thailand records about 25,000 new cases of Covid-19 every day as the Omicron variant spreads. The tourism industry of the Golden Temple is estimated to welcome about 5 million foreign visitors this year.
