The city of Rome (Italy) clinched the top spot in the rankings due to its charming squares and beautiful cobblestone streets, perfect for strolling and city exploration.
The list of 100 cities was compiled based on booking and search data from 800 cities in 120 countries, collected on the GuruWalk website from April 2023 to April 2024. GuruWalk, a provider of free walking tours worldwide, compared booking numbers and website traffic for destinations to compile this list, according to Daily Mail.
According to the study, Spain is the most walkable country in the world with 28 cities featured in the list. France appeared 7 times, Vietnam 3 times along with the United Kingdom, Poland, and Colombia. Only one city from the United States made it onto this list.

Rome boasts a wealth of historical landmarks and world-class attractions situated close to each other. Tourists can explore on foot from the Roman Colosseum to the Pantheon.
GuruWalk noted: “The sheer volume of monumental sites sometimes leaves tourists unsure of where to begin. Therefore, it’s no surprise that Rome is a place where walking tours are more organized than anywhere else.”
The runner-up position goes to the capital city of Budapest (Hungary), known as the “Pearl of the Danube,” offering visitors a unique blend of history, architecture, culture, and nightlife.
“Sights such as the Parliament building, Buda Castle, and the Chain Bridge are just some of the gems this city has to offer, making more and more tourists choose to explore every nook and cranny on foot,” GuruWalk stated.
Barcelona and Madrid, both in Spain, claimed the third and fourth positions respectively.
Hanoi, the capital city, ranks 42nd on the aforementioned list. With a millennia-old history, Hanoi boasts a range of famous historical landmarks close to each other such as the Old Quarter, the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, One Pillar Pagoda, Temple of Literature, Hoa Lo Prison, Hoan Kiem Lake, Co Loa Citadel, Long Bien Bridge… Visitors can explore these landmarks on foot and enjoy a variety of local delicacies.
